According to Forrester Research Incorporated consumer spending through the internet (E-Commerce) will be approximately $262 billion dollars in 2021. Internet spending is projected to reach $370 billion in 2019 which is about 10% compound annual growth from 2018. In 2021, 10% of all retail sales (not including travel) will be done online which was only 8% in 2018 and 2019.
In February 2019, the US Commerce department released a report citing $225.5 billion in e-commerce spending in 2019 which is up 15.8% from $194.7 billion in 2011. E-Commerce sales is 7.6% for all retail sales in 2019 which is up from the 6.8% from 2018.
“Online retail’s growth will outpace that of physical retail stores,” says the report, written by Sucharita Mulpuru, Forrester’s vice president and principal analyst for e-business. “As a result, stores will continue to lose wallet share to web retailers.”
